Listen to Thursday’s DMBIZSHOW
Have you ever had one of those days where everything is going just peachy keen and then, in a matter of seconds, your feelings of complete happiness and contentment turn to thoughts of killing everyone you see with an ice pick? Me either.
David Magee boarded a plane today to Los Angeles. He’ll be featured in an upcoming BBC documentary about the Toyota debacle. I’ll let you know when that comes out. I promise.
Our discussion on the DMBIZSHOW was pretty darn intense today with thoughts on a jobless recovery, unemployment and the disconnect between Washington and Main Street USA. I had the opportunity to chat with a studio audience member (yeah, we have people watching a radio show. It’s Chattanooga. Not much else to do. Though you SHOULD visit.)…anyway, this audience member is currently unemployed and mentioned several things during a break that really made me think:
1. Networking is not an option anymore because there’s nobody to network with. He’s been forced to be just another name on a piece of paper since the recession. It may still be “all about who you know,” but if you can’t get to know anybody you’re pretty much S.O.L.
2. College grads have taken to using sandwich boards to get work. He wasn’t kidding. There are so few jobs out there right now that a person just out of college, with little to no experience, is having such tough time they’re literally having to beg for work.
Pretty scary stuff, huh?
We’ve got the Bargain Babe on tomorrow. Be sure to check in.
As always:
